The neurological impact of being Black in the U.S.

Aziz Elbasheir, a 5th year neuroscience Ph.D. candidate, published an article with the Harvard Public Health Magazine exploring the impact of racial discrimination on neurological health. Aziz shares one of his personal experiences of racial discrimination to highlight the lasting impact that a singular experience can have. Chronic activation of the body’s stress responses, impacting the endocrine, cardiovascular, and immune systems, may ultimately contribute to accelerated aging and increased risk of developing chronic health conditions. Aziz stresses the importance of continuing research on the effects of racism on the health of Black people.
